Paying homage to the classic Air Flight 90 sneakers with their ‘lost at sea’ aesthetic, this latest collaboration between San Francisco based Atlas Skateboards and Nike SB showcases a sail white, track red and ocean fog colourway across a Dunk High Pro QS profile. Inspired by the ‘Nike Armada’ shipping accident of 1990, these high-top sneakers are styled with distressed Nubuck leather uppers to evoke a weather-worn sense of appeal, whilst the worn-in midsole, iconic Zoom Air Unit and the yellowish rubber outsole pays homage to its sea-soaked muse. Circular tread and a forefoot pivot circle across the foggy-blue cupsole delivers exemplary traction that honours the profile’s court-side heritage, while the perforated toe-box, reinforced seams and the puffy 9-eyelet interchangeable lacing system keeps the padded ‘Nike SB Atlas’ embroidered tongue securely fastened across the arch of the foot. Worn-out yellow-tinted swoop back Swooshes complement the time-honoured side walls, wrapping around to pair neatly with a single heel-tab pull, while the performance-minded padded ankle collars and the custom-faded Nike SB Zoom Air insoles sign these immersive skate shoes off in line with its admirable sea-faring legacy.
Having collaborated with Nike SB on an ‘Electric Locomotive’ pair of Dunk Lows in 2015, San Francisco based Atlas Skateboards is no stranger to the scene. Inspired by the infamous Hansa-Carrier shipping incident from 1990, these quick-strike Nike SB Dunk High Pros offer up a materialistic answer to the question ‘What happens when a pair of shoes gets lost at sea?’, whilst their old-school undertone and loyalty to the famed Air Flight 90 remains ever-apparent.
