Carrying a distinctly nostalgic colourway that will be familiar for anyone who remembers the original 1996 model of the Air Griffey Max 1, these Nike SB Dunk Mid Pro Shoes pay homage to the legendary Ken Griffey Jr. and are equipped with skate-focused enhancements as part of the on-going Nike SB Orange Label Project. The uppers are crafted from premium, velvety Nubuck in black and ‘freshwater’ teal - two key tones from the original release which remain as impactful as ever - that not only offers a high level of durability for skateboarding but also gives the silhouette a high quality finish enhanced by crisp white accents at the toe, on the laces and side panels. Around one side of the toe vamp a white embroidered Swoosh tick displays signature Nike branding and pairs with the white lace fastening and ‘58’ numeric adornment on the edge of the velcro adjuster strap above which celebrates Griffey’s Topps baseball card number. A signature figure of many Nike SB models, a large white elongated Swoosh tick sits on either side panel and continues around to the back of the heel. The tongue and ankle border are padded for comfort and additional Nike SB branding can be found on a woven label positioned below the top edge of the tongue.
Throughout the inside of the shoe a soft fabric lining has been added to increase comfort in addition to a Zoom Air unit within the sockliner which will absorb hard impacts when skating across a variety of terrains. The black rubber outsole has a full cupsole stitch for an impressive level of durability and underfoot the circular tread design incorporates a forefoot pivot circle that delivers multidirectional grip and demonstrates further influence from the design of the original Nike Dunk.
Inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016 George Kenneth Griffey Jr. - otherwise known as ‘The Kid’ - is known for his natural sporting talents and stylish flair that earned him thirteen All-Star Game selections, ten Gold Glove Awards and seven Silver Slugger Awards throughout his twenty-two year career. Having played for the Seattle Mariners for the majority of his time on the pitch, Nike SB has borrowed signature tones from the Washington based team for their latest Nike SB Orange Label footwear model to create a memorable variation of a 1996 Air Max 1 design.
