Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Street Hawker’ Shoes in Metallic Copper and Metallic Silver. Designed in collaboration with Guangzhou-based artist Jason Deng, the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro Street Hawker is an expressive sneaker inspired by heritage, food culture and Chinese traditions. Welcoming a referential food-based twist to a returning classic, these low-top Dunks are designed to turn heads with their mix-match profile detailing and their innovative use of textured trims. Inspired by six unique dishes from six unique cities in China, these asymmetrical skate shoes are styled with alternate profiles across both the right and left foot for a stand-out sense of wear. Both constructed from combinations of brushed-suede, reinforced canvas and premium-grade leather, the left shoe represents three flour-based dishes via its neutral beige-toned design. Mimicking the texture and colour of Douzhi (green-bean soup) from Beijing, the toe-box is perforated for improved circulatory comfort, whilst the watercolour Jiaoquan (donut) inspired forefoot overlays provide added protection as and where needed. Raised and embossed lateral sides represent shredded pita bread pieces from the traditional Xi’an dish with the accompanying mutton soup referenced via the watercolour intricates across the lateral side above the chopstick-inspired textured Swoosh. Shanghai-style Yangchyn noodles are signified across the lateral heel, whilst the embroidered 10-cent copper coin hints at the underlying heritage of evolutionary street-food culture. For the right sneaker, odes to ‘spicy and sweet’ are reflected via its tangy hot-pot colourway. Metallic-bronze across the toe-box is inspired by the famed Chengdu hotpots, whilst boiling chili-oil decals accentuate the split-tone vulcanised cupsole. Speckled ostrich-leather on the lateral side is inspired by crispy roast goose, whilst the metallic side-wall Swoosh resembles the hang-hook used for this iconic dish. Odes to shaved ice and taro accentuate the heel counter for a sweetened sign off. Embroidered Chinese calligraphy seals each profile across the heel, whilst each custom insole represents either a Chinese proverb or the home-farmed legacy associated with each unique dish.
Inspired by the intricacies of street-food and hawker culture, these latest Nike SB Dunk Low Pros add a fiery yet complex sense of appeal to the ever-expanding rosta. Arriving ahead of Chinese New Year, celebrated officially between February 12th and February 22nd 2021, these creative multi-profile Dunks arrive as an accurate representation of the bonding effect curated by classic street-food tradition.
