Part of the brand’s latest ‘Sashiko’ pack that honours traditional Japanese sewing techniques, these stitch-stacked Nike SB Dunk Low Pro Premium Shoes in a dyed-denim shade of mystic navy and sail white host an artisan-inspired aesthetic with references to old-school ‘90s stylings. Remaining loyal to the original ‘85 profile with its distinctive court-side trims, these low-profile skate shoes are styled with split-panel brushed suede and dyed-denim frayed-edge uppers for added resiliency and durability, whilst the creamy-white midsole, the full-cupsole stitch and the gum-brown circular treaded outsole all deliver exceptional levels of functionality and performance where needed. A responsive foam sockliner cushions the interior, whilst Nike’s iconic Zoom Air unit formats the heel for added impact and flick. Honouring Sashiko’s ‘new items out of old’ ethos, the body of the sneaker hosts an upcycled vibe for a more throwback sense of character, with the ornate and layered white-stitch Swoosh replacing its iconic block-tone predecessor. Punch-through perforations are added to the toe-vamp for additional comfort and breathability, whilst the arching mirror-stitched curves across the toe-front and heel brace pay homage to quality craftsmanship and the notion of letting intricacies speak for themselves. A padded, dyed-denim ‘Dunk Low Pro’ branded tongue is complemented by puffy interchangeable laces from a recessed 7-eyelet panel, whilst the white-stitch ‘Nike’ branding across the soft-suede sky blue ankle collar helps seal the design off inline with classic Dunk Low tradition.
Inspired by the notion of ‘evolution with respect to the past’, the Nike SB Sashiko pack is designed to celebrate premium-quality artisanship and cultural heritage at its best. Following on from their recent appointment as skateboarding-sponsors for the now-postponed Tokyo 2020 Games, Nike SB turns to more traditional methodologies for inspiration, whilst the exposed stitching, reinforced sense of character and the overall authenticity of the Sashiko-inspired Dunk Low Pro Premium is something to be truly admired.
