Following mass hype since being spotted in the ‘JACKBOYS’ music video late last year, the Nike SB x Travis Scott Dunk Low Premium Shoes are set for release on February 29th 2020 and boast an unusual and expressive aesthetic like no other.
As a known fan of Nike shoes and in more recent times of the Nike SB Dunk in particular, it’s fitting that Scott has selected this model as the first of his collaborative designs for the Nike skateboarding division. In tune with recent trends for customisation, the paisley bandana print seen on denim-style dark navy overlays will wear away throughout time to reveal woodsy-style camo patterns against a parachute beige base which match the tone of the toe vamp, highly padded tongue and back of the heel. Perforation has been added at the toe for ventilation and the option of off-white rope-style laces bring additional texture to the design, or if you’d prefer two normal sets of laces arrive with each pair coloured in black and light pink. Replacing the usual Nike SB logo, Dogtown style ‘Cactus Jack’ lettering can be seen on a woven label positioned below the top edge of the tongue which has a petra brown piped edge. On either side of the foot the tartan panel differs in colour from the inside and outside in addition to black and light pink nubuck Swoosh ticks which have elongated tips that meet around the back of the heel. Embroidered ‘Nike’ lettering can be seen on a curved overlay panel on the back of the shoe and throughout the inside the dense mesh lining matches the underlay of the tongue. The insole features a custom paisley print design with the same ‘Cactus Jack’ lettering that can be seen on the tongue label. Comparable to older Dunk models, the cupsole is made from high quality rubber and has a layered look with a skateboarding-focused pattern that delivers a high level of grip with a circular pivot point under the forefoot.
Released for the end of 2019 and followed a day later by a music video for the title track ‘JACKBOYS’ where Scott was seen donning a pair of these Dunk Low Premium Shoes, the latest album from American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer Travis Scott features parts from the likes of Sheck Wes, Don Toliver, and Chase B. For his first major-label deal Scott signed to Epic Records in 2012 and shortly after to Kanye West’s GOOD music which led to Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho and Astroworld, also the name of a music festival Scott went on to found that takes place every year in his home city of Houston, Texas. Remaining firmly in the spotlight, Scott is known for his experimental style which has gained him the status of being one of the leading influencers in fashion and music. Fitting perfectly with Nike SB’s far reaching appeal, the Nike SB x Travis Scott Dunk Low Premium Shoes demonstrate the versatility of the Dunk which continues to be reimagined and reinvented by pioneering figures within culture.
