Nike SB x Parra Dunk Low OG Shoes
By Parra and Nike have a successful history of collaborations, both alone and and joined with Dutch brand Patta. Their newest creative venture arrives in the form of a collaboration with Nike SB on an OG Dunk Low, the creative duo have revitalised the iconic silhouette with the instantly recognisable colour scheme of Amsterdam based by Parra. Alongside this, a Blazer Low GT and range of apparel will be available to purchase online on the main Flatspot site on Friday 26th July at 8am.
The Nike SB x Parra Dunk Low OG features a crisp white leather upper contrasted by a blue mini swoosh logo which rests on the outer toe cap. Further swoosh detailing is seen on the lateral panels with the addition of soft chenille fabric, with the repeating design giving a 3D impression. This swoosh design is produced in the iconic Parra colour palette, which continues throughout the design. The OG padded, mesh tongue additionally features a woven label with Parra signature over the top of a patterned motif which is mirrored in sockliner. This pattern can be seen peeking out from the ankle when worn. Final detailing on the heel sports simple co-branding with stylised SB and Parra motifs and custom aglets see a continuation of the bright colour scheme.
While Parra has delivered in terms of the aesthetics, Nike SB has offered a leading skate-ready level of functionality. The fat-tongue that’s synonymous with the silhouette ensures crucial support with each step, with the addition of a Zoom Air unit in the sockliner for even impact protection. Finally the circular tread pattern offers multidirectional traction and improved boardfeel.
Pieter ‘Parra’ Janssen is a prominent name within art, skate and streetwear and started his own clothing label, Rockwell, in 2002. The brand started out doing promotional t-shirts showcasing his bright and colourful illustrations, but since 2004 it has been putting out collections twice a year. The style of the graphics has really evolved throughout the years, whilst keeping the same, highly saturated colour palette of blue, red and pink.
In addition to being an award winning artist, brand owner and professional skateboarder (signing to Colorblind before beginning his own deck company), Pieter retains a working relationship with both Dutch and international companies. For instance Amsterdam based Patta. Parra had a studio in Patta’s original building and has aided them with the designs behind some of their most popular collaborations (for brands like Alife and ASICS) as well as Patta’s own in-house label. Most notably were their joint collaborations with Nike on the Air Max 95 ‘The Running Man’ and just last year the release of an Air Max 1 and Zoom Spiridon.
We can be sure that this won’t be the last collaboration between these skate giants.
