Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid

Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid | Flatspot

Unveiled through a special quickstrike release through our releases.flatspot site, the Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid Shoes mark a milestone for an independent London based skate brand that we’ve watched strengthen and progress since its establishment in 2013.

Founded by Nick Jensen, Paul Shier and Chris Aylen, Isle has taken time to slowly but surely develop ideas whilst ensuring a certain level of quality throughout both design and manufacture is maintained. As a result of this, the skate brand has developed a strong reputation for those who appreciate the trio’s vision for their place within the skate industry. Portraying vintage style editing and stop-animation cut scenes, Isle released their first full-length skate film Vase in 2015 which perfectly demonstrated the brands artful aesthetic and didn’t shy away from including gritty edits and bails. As a professional artist and skateboarder himself, Nick Jensen’s influence on the brand is apparent through each release which sees custom artwork presented across skate decks, apparel and accessories that is then translated to video parts featuring the likes of Tom Knox, Mike Arnold and Casper Brooker who all represent the brand as team riders.

It comes as no surprise that the brand's first footwear collaboration with Nike SB carries a unique aesthetic that incorporates influences from art and creativity through a decorative panel of blue canvas inspired by the cyanotype photographic printing process. The inconspicuous all-black canvas uppers and rubber outsole of the Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid provides a perfect base to enhance the raw-edge canvas overlay which sits on the outer side of the shoe and shows stylised ‘isle’ lettering within the blue void and sail tone background. Additional ‘Isle’ lettering has been embroidered in white around the back of the heel which is cushioned for comfort and support, ensuring this shoe not only represents Isle’s love for creativity, but remains suitable for skateboarding. The raised silhouette of the shoe protects the ankle in addition to the full length black lace fastening which sits subtly against the cushioned tongue that has an exposed top edge. A monochrome woven label wraps around the top edge of the tongue and shows collaborative Nike SB and Isle branding. A Zoom Air unit sits within the insole to offer impact protection and the rubber outsole has a hard wearing finish that stands up to repetitive abrasion with a textured overlay cap around the front of the toes. Completing the design, the OG herringbone tread pattern has been selected to provide quality grip for quality board feel and grip.

Continuing to grow their community and identity each year, Isle demonstrates the strong community that has been developed by skateboarders around the world and goes beyond being represented purely by material goods by using their place within the industry for good by drawing attention to non-profit organisations such as SkatePAL and the Ben Raemers Foundation to support other communities around the world and individuals through their love for and the benefits of skateboarding.

Set to be released on April 4th 2020, the Nike SB x Isle Blazer Mid e collaboration has marked a strong start to the new decade from Isle but there’s no doubt the team will continue to follow their own path in pursuit of their own direction. Whether it’s across a skate deck, t-shirt or video part, Isle proudly represents the British skate scene and resonates with those seeking attention to detail and a thoughtful design process.
