Nike SB x Ben & Jerry's 'Chunky Dunky' Dunk Low Pro
Appropriately named the ‘Chunky Dunky’ as a spin off of one of Ben & Jerry’s best loved flavours the ‘Chunky Monkey’, this special edition Nike SB Dunk release features a collaborative design that has been created in partnership with the internationally known and celebrated ice cream company. Constructed using a variety of premium materials adorned with vibrant prints and colour tones, these Nike SB x Ben & Jerry's 'Chunky Dunky' Dunk Low Pro Shoes are sure to be one of the most memorable releases of the year and perfectly capture the distinctive aesthetic of Ben & Jerry’s packaging which adds to Nike SB’s continuous stream of momentous footwear releases.
Surrounded by monochrome faux cowhide borders, the uppers are made from smooth premium leather which has been customised with a blue and green landscape design pulled straight from a Ben & Jerry’s tub design. The lagoon pulse coloured toe vamp is perforated to encourage ventilation and above this the laces connect to a cowhide border which matches the padded tongue. Three sets of laces arrive with each style, giving you the option to choose between white, green and university gold and rainbow tie-dye piping wraps around the top edge of the tongue as well as the colour. A woven label has been added to the top of the tongue showing signature Nike SB branding above additional ‘Chunky Dunky’ lettering whilst on the underside another woven label shows the famous Ben & Jerry’s logo with a quote from co-founder Jerry Greenfield reading ‘If It’s Not Fun, Why Do It?’. Tapping into the brands associated ‘hippy’ roots the rainbow tie dye continues throughout the inside of the shoe as a lining and decorative sockliner. Adding further personality, on either side of the foot customised university gold coloured Swoosh ticks have a drip-effect bottom edge, which mimics the look of melting ice cream, before continuing around to the back of the heel where a curved black panel provides a background for embroidered ‘Nike’ lettering in signature Ben & Jerry’s font above a middle section decorated with painted white clouds accentuated with stitched outlines.
Skate-focused performance features remain in place to ensure this designs suitability for wear both on and off the board, including a Zoom Air unit within the sockliner, padding at the tongue and a full cupsole stitch around the durable rubber outsole. Underfoot the tread features a circular design that delivers quality boardfeel and a pivot point at the forefoot has also been added for extra grip.
Since 1978 Ben & Jerry’s have been offering high quality ice cream in an abundance of flavours that have been playfully named to express the company’s light hearted approach to business and their desire to spread some love and happiness. In keeping with their ethos of ‘make the best ice cream possible and use the business to do good’ in recent years Ben & Jerry’s have become even more committed to their Fair Trade agreements whilst also supporting various cooperative campaigns and incorporating alternative ingredients to suit vegan diets through their own range of dairy-free flavors. Founded by two friends, Ben Cohen a craft teacher and Jerry Greenfield a lab technician, Burlington, Vermont, is where the Ben & Jerry’s story first started after the duo decided to sign up for a correspondence mail order course on how to make ice cream, after learning that making bagels - which was their initial plan - needed more capital that ice cream production.
