Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 Low Desert Ore
Built with wear-away uppers and mismatched detailing this new Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 Low has been constructed with desert ore coloured canvas uppers that throughout time will dissolve away with abrasion to reveal smooth leather underlays. The design has been inspired by Lance Mountain’s part in the Powell Peralta ‘The Search for Animal Chin’ 1987 video where he can be seen wearing two different Nike Hi-Top Jordans on either foot in royal and UNC powder blue colourways. Remade using modern materials and skate-focused features, both shoes have been built with the same features such as elongated Swoosh ticks on either side of the foot, a cotton lace up fastening and breathable mesh linings.
University of North Carolina inspired powder blue edging can be seen on the right shoe and royal blue with black accents on the left and each section has been constructed with the wear away canvas including the back of the heel which over time will reveal a printed Air Jordan wings logo. A woven Nike SB label wraps around the top edge of either tongue coloured in tones to suit the individual colourways and double lines of top stitching add strength to the border of key areas. For all day support both styles feature lightweight cushioning in the form of padding across the underside of the tongue and Zoom Air units within the sockliners, enhanced by a distinctive multicoloured decorative design which for anyone who knows ‘The Search for Animal Chin’ well will recognise the graphics from a painted handball wall where Lance Mountain and the team can be seen riding. Underfoot the layered cupsole has a two part textured white mid section on top of a multidirectional tread that has been coloured accordingly to suit either shoe. For further customisation additional black and powder blue coloured laces arrive with each pair.
Not only an icon within skateboarding but a renowned artist and creative; Lance Mountain has a rich history that is continually added to from his time spent riding within the Bones Brigade, alongside the likes of Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero and Tommy Guerreno, to his imaginative collaborations with Nike SB and sponsorships with Independent, Spitfire and Stussy. 2019 has seen several Nike SB x Air Jordan collaborations with the likes of Eric Koston and Lance Mountain which combine the models basketball origins by using selected colour tones with modern skate performance features and premium materials. Used on a Nike SB Air Jordan 1 model back in 2014, this year has favoured interactive finishes that allow for personal customisation and a unique look that results in no two pairs looking the same.
