Nike SB 'Strangelove' Dunk Low Pro | Flatspot

Arriving ahead of Saint Valentine’s Day with a distinctly loved up design, the Nike SB 'Strangelove' Dunk Low Pro Shoes have been created by legendary illustrators Sean Cliver and Todd Bratruf who both share a rich history in designing skate decks throughout the ‘80s, ‘90s and current day. Featuring inside and out, crushed velvet and suede has been selected to achieve a distinctive finish that reflects inspirations from the love fuelled annual event and consequently Cliver and Bratruf’s passion for creativity and art.

The toe vamp, side panels and topside of the tongue have been made from medium soft pink coloured velvet which is encased by a bright melon suede border that holds the gym red lace fastening in place before continuing around the back of the heel. On either side of the foot gym red Swoosh ticks match the lining of the ankle collar, edge of the padded tongue and a curved panel on the back of the heel where ‘Nike’ lettering has been embroidered in white. A signature feature of any Dunk Low Pro model, the tongue is highly cushioned with a piped edge and a woven Nike SB Strangelove label. On the outer side of the heel an embroidered emblem shows a skull coloured in tones that match the Strangelove logo with protruding veins above which ties in with custom illustrations across either sockliner. The left sockliner has a drawing of intertwined skeletons holding a bow with the Strangelove logo printed against a red ribbon that wraps around the figures with fallen feathers and a Nike SB logo below. Continuing across the right sockliner, the other design shows a red ribbon wrapping around a blue skateboard that has been hit by an arrow with stylised ‘Soul Mate’ lettering. Additional customisation can be seen within the light pink translucent tread below the white flexible white cupsole where red and blue metallic heart shaped confetti has been inlaid within the heel and around a circular pivot point on the forefoot. Arriving with each pair gym red, white and tricoloured laces allow you to customise your look and the aglets are branded with the Strangelove logo.

Author of Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art, Sean Cliver knows a thing or two about skateboard art and continues to celebrate and support individual talent through his own California based store Strangelove. Having worked for Powell Peralta from the late ‘80s, Cliver not only appreciates design but also the application of artwork which has led to each deck he supplies made through a multiple layer screen print process as opposed to a lesser quality heat transfer technique. Working alongside Todd Bratrud of Send Help Skateboards, this love themed release coincides with Nike SB’s unconditional support for independent skate stores.
