Nike SB Dunk Low Pro 'Safari'
Displaying a memorable colourway borrowed from the popular 2002 Nike Air Max 1 ‘Safari’ QS Atmos and following on from the latest edition of the Nike SB GTS Return Premium L, the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Safari’ has been reimagined to embody a skate-friendly silhouette intertwined with a playful ‘90s and ‘00s aesthetic that stays true to Nike’s passion for uniqueness. Much-loved ostrich skin inspired printing is combined with suede side panels, leather accents and mismatched Swooshes to provide these Orange Label Dunks with a distinctive colour-filled finish that’s set to catch the eyes of both skate and streetwear fanatics across the globe.
With a nod towards the first ever Air Max 1 collaboration between Nike and prominent Japanese streetwear boutique Atmos, the striking ‘Safari’ QS Atmos marked the unofficial celebration of the now legendary silhouette’s 15-year anniversary. An iconic design initially brought to life by designer Tinker Hatfield in 1987, the classic Air Max 1 styling revolutionised the brand by supplying a pivotal design - the first of its kind to feature the Air-cushioned sole. Fast forward to the early ‘00s and we’re graced with the Atmos-founder Hidefumi Hommyo’s creative spin on the design, fuelled by a passion to deliver a juxtaposed aesthetic, enriched with a punchy and awe-inspiring colourway across a beloved street silhouette. Leading the way for a wave of ‘new age’ luxury lifestyle sneakers, other ‘Safari’ re-designs such as the low-profile ‘18 Nike Air, the Vapormax-boosted Nike Air Force 270 and the exclusive Nike LeBron Soldier 11 have all welcomed the signature colourway to deliver unchallenged and contemporary styling loved by all, no matter your lifestyle or sporting interests.
2020 marks the first time this highly popular pattern is let loose on the Dunk Low Pro silhouette, and it does so energetically. Maintaining its historic and iconic design style, premium-leather grey-toned ostrich ‘Safari’ printed overlays can be seen encasing golden suede uppers to deliver an OG presence like no other. To add to the sneaker’s quirky persona, mismatched kumquat and desert ochre Swooshes wrap around to the heel of the shoe and if two Swooshes weren’t enough, embroidered black mini Swooshes display on the outer toe overlays assisting in solidifying the much-loved ‘Safari’ aesthetic. The rear brown-leather heel tabs bring a multi-textured tone to the design whilst the proudly displayed embroidered Swooshes are reflective of Nike’s most iconic styles. Staying true to the Dunk Low’s authentic identity is the durable canvas toe box, and cushioned bold black laces allow for quick and easy fashioning whilst the colour-matched woven ‘Nike SB Dunk Low Pro’ label across the front of the padded mesh tongue delivers both optimised comfort infused with Nike’s iconic DNA. The two-toned midsole, gum rubber outsole and purpose-carved pivot point and traction grooves enhance the skate-specific purpose of these sneaker’s to supply multi-directional grip as and when it’s needed.
Available exclusively through selected skate and streetwear shops, these eagerly awaited Safari Dunk Low Pros are the latest edition to Nike SB’s Orange Label collection. Launched at the beginning of 2019 as part of the #supportyourlocalskateshop initiative, the Orange Label Collection strives to emphasis the importance of independent retailers and has already delivered creative collaborations with the likes of Swedish skater Oskar ‘Oski’ Rozenberg and Ishod Wair, whilst their latest SS20 release introduces a range of non-conformative stylings innovatively designed by US skate-team member Leo Baker.
