Nike SB 420 'Dog Walker' Dunk High
With 4/20 looming it means one thing, the annual Nike SB Dunk release of course - although this year is more dog than it is Stardawg.
The hairy suede that predominantly makes up the upper is reminiscent of the 2010 Skunk Hi release, but the “Dogwalker” puts its very own spin on it. Canine-themed detailing can be seen across the toe panel, tongue and collar which feature contrasting shades (black/tan/brown respectively) of textured pony hair. The side panel features dalmatian accents, layered under a red nylon swoosh representing a dog's collar that connects to a name tag on the heel. The transparent outsole includes spots of brown, you know for when you step in “mud” on a late night “dog-walk”. Final details include spare laces arriving in a small green Nike baggy and insoles covered with photos of mans best friend.
The shoes additionally feature the traditional dunk features; a padded tongue and Air Zoom unit in the sockliner for all-day wearable comfort, while its cupsole construction and circular tread pattern provides not only durability but multidirectional traction too.
SB has been making dunks since 2002, which two years later saw the first hemp-holiday related sneakers being released. In the fifteen years since the tradition began, these dunks have often ranked as some of the most appreciated by collectors (according to both Complex and Hypebeast) landing in the top 50 and 100 ever made. Key ones include the original 2004 Hemp Dunk Low; made totally from hemp, 2010’s Skunk Hi’s, which include a stash pocket and the following years Cheech and Chong collaboration.
All of these were designed by Nike’s resident illustrator Todd Bratrud, who runs his own skate company alongside contributing to the fat-tongue legacy - which he's done for over a decade now.
